Saturday Aug 25 was the Santa Barbara Triathlon. 1 mile swim, 35 mile bike, and 10 mile run. We when out on Thursday and it started with an 8 hour drive from Phoenix. It was fairly boring until we got to route 1. The views were awesome. I even got to see a Mclaren 12c.
Time for some wine tasting and then dinner we went to an awesome Cajun place called The Palace grill. The food was amazing. Friday started out with a short 30 min bike ride in which Erin and I both missed a stop sign and slammed on out brakes skidding to a stop but safe and sound.
Breakfast was great at Crush Cakes. Erin got Red Velvet Pancakes and I got a skillet but the best part was the cupcakes which they are famous for. We then drove to Santa Ynez to do some wine tasting. We went to a great Vineyard called Rideau. We got a lot more wine then we paid for. So much so that we decided that we needed to go eat and relax before our drive back.
Dinner Friday night was another amazing meal. This restaurant was in Carpinteria where we were staying. It’s about 10 miles from Santa Barbara. We ate at Giannfranco’s Trattoria. This was one of the best Italian Restaurants I have ever eaten at. It is a family owned place.
Race Day morning was a little warmer than I expected. This was a good thing because I forgot anything that was long sleeve. I was scared that I was going to be freezing when I got on the bike but I was not. Everything was perfect. It did mist the whole ride but that was fine with me.
The swim went as it normally does. I hate my life for as long as it lasts. I have no idea why but I hate it. I averaged 2:14/100m not that great. Once out of the water things got better. On the bike my inner thighs were sore but I managed to crank out a great ride (17.89mph). The ride was very hilly but scenic. I did hold back a little because I wanted an amazing run and that is exactly what I got. I pushed out an 8:09 min/mile. WOW.
Erin did the Aquabike which is just the swim and bike. We had a bet on who would finish the swim fastest and yes she won. Booooo but who care because now its time for more wine and food. It was a great trip. I suggest you do it next year.
